How To Fix Black Desktop Background In Windows 10?

Sometimes, you will find a Black Desktop Background on your computer. In those times, you will feel disturbing to see it. You will miss the usual colorful view of the desktop. Let us discuss the steps to fix the Black Desktop Background in Windows 10.

Black Desktop Background in Windows 10:

One of the standard features of Windows computers is colorful desktop wallpaper. Without wallpaper, you can’t imagine a Windows PC. A background image plays a vital role in the desktop.

  • Enable Show Windows Background Option:

Here you need to follow some steps to enable the “Show Windows Background” option on your computer.

Step 1: 

On your computer, check for the settings option in the left pane. Go to Ease of Access> Other Options. You will see a “Show Windows Background” option on the right pane. You need to enable the same option.’

Step 2:

After enabling the above option, you need to restart your PC. This will solve the black desktop background option.

  • Change Desktop Background Type:

In some cases, switching to a different background type may help you. Switching to a different background model will solve your issue of the black desktop background.

Step 1:

Click on the Settings option on your PC. Go to Personalization> Background option. You will find this option in the left pane. In the right type, you will get the option to change the Background type. Change it from Color/Picture type to Slideshow.

Step 2: 

The next step is to switch back to the picture background. You need to get back to this option after finding the slideshow background.

  • Replace Black Desktop Background with Picture:

The best method to eliminate the black desktop background problem is to replace it with pictures. You will have some sample pictures or other pictures on your PC. Replace them to fix the problem in Windows 10.

In Windows 10 PC, make a right-click on the start button. Check for the File Explorer option and click on it.

Step 2:

Click on the Pictures option to choose the image for the desktop background. You can check for a folder or location containing images. Choose the image of your choice to use it as a desktop background.

Make a right-click on the chosen image. Amongst many options, you need to click on the “Set as desktop background”.

  • Uncheck High Contrast Black Option:

Step 1: 

On your PC, go to the Settings option. Click on Personalization to select the Colors option in the left pane. Scroll down on the right pane to select the “High Contrast Settings” link.

Step 2:

You will find a “High Contrast” option where you need to choose the “None” theme. By default, the theme will have a high contrast black option.

  • Check Ease of Access Settings:

People may find the black desktop background with the accidental change in the “ease of access” settings.

Step 1:

Go to the control panel on your PC. Ensure that you open in Category View to select the “Ease of Access”.

Step 2:

Go to the “Ease of Access Center” option. Choose the “Make the computer easier to use” to get a new screen.

Step 3:

Scroll down the new screen, to get the option “Remove background images”. Uncheck this option and choose to apply> Ok to store this setting.

Step 4:

Choose a wallpaper of your choice through the option Settings> Personalization> Background.

  • Check Power Plan Settings:

Changing the power settings in the control panel may affect the desktop background in Windows 10.

Step 1:

On your PC, open the control panel. Ensure that you are in “Category View” on the control panel screen. Choose the “System and Security” option.

Step 2:

Click on “Power Options” to get a new screen. On this screen choose the “Change Plan Settings” link. Go to the “Change Advanced Power Settings” link. 

Step 3:

The next screen appears where you need to expand the option “Desktop Background Settings”. Check the slide show is in “available” mode.

Step 4:

If you find it in disable mode, enable the slide show. Follow the usual procedure to set the wallpaper by Settings> Personalization> Background.

  • Corrupt TranscodedWallpaper File:

If the above methods are not working fine, the problem will be a Corrupted Transcoded Wallpaper File.

Step 1:

Make a right-click on the Start button to choose the file explorer.

Step 2:

Move to C: Users/User Account/App Data/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Themes Folder.  You will see a Transcoded Wallpaper File. Rename it to Transcoded Wallpaper.old.

Step 3:

In the Themes Folder, use Notepad to open the Settings.ini file. Delete the contents of this settings file and save it. Follow the usual steps to set a new desktop background by Settings> Personalization> Background.
