Pneumatic Actuators Being Used to Create Rotary or Linear Motion

Pneumatic actuator is basically a mechanical device, which is capable of creating rotary or linear motion from any power source based on the directions of the control source. Pneumatic actuators have a vital role in many high-efficiency industrial applications as in the manufacturing units, oil & gas mining, petrochemical refineries, construction, water treatment and many more.

Advantages of pneumatic actuators

The actuators basically use pressurized gas to actuate a particular motion and this mechanism is very less expensive compared to other technologies. Also, these systems are safer and more reliable when compared to electric motor powered or valve actuator systems. These actuators basically consist of a piston, cylinder, and the valves or otherwise called the ports. Piston is enveloped by a sealed diaphragm that keeps the air tight in the upper part of the cylinder, which forces the diaphragm keeps the air in the upper portion of the cylinder, allowing air pressure to force the diaphragm downwards. This will in turn move the piston underneath the cylinder that is linked to an external system where a rotary of linear motion comes into action.

The pneumatic actuators usually have an option for signal input too at the bottom or top, deciding on the action required. The valves in the system require a little pressure to function and in turn can double or increase multifold the input force. Obviously, the large the piston size, the larger would be the output pressure. The pressure generated is strong enough to crush objects in the pipe. For example, on a 100 kPa input, the system can lift up a car with a weight of 1,000 lbs. Further, we will review a few models of pneumatic actuators in use.

A-Force Pneumatic Actuator

A-Force Actuator is an advanced function mechanical device, which uses the Scotch-Yoke technology, which his being often chosen for the valve and damper operations as it can offer a high-torque output. A-Force actuator features many advantages in terms of safety, applicability, and ease to handle. The cylinder is made up of anodized aluminum, which is very hard and also contains the NAMUR drive shaft.

R-Force Actuator

R-Force Actuator is a device which uses the rack and pinion technology, which is very reliable and functional. This system has got a high life cycle of more than 1,000,000 operations with only minimal wear out of its moving parts. The maximum working pressure of R-Force is about 143 Psi (10 Bar).

H-Force Pneumatic Actuator

H-Force Actuator is basically a heavy duty system with high torque actuation, coming up to 200,000 N.M. It features a maximum pressure of 10 Bar (143 Psi) and same as in the A-Force Pneumatic Actuator, H-Force also uses the Scotch-Yoke technology. It has also got a double-acting spring return with custom setting of strong, medium, and weak, and also an attachable valve (rotary-type).
