Give The Best Dell Alienware 17 R5 Review A Read

The new Dell Alienware 17 R5 offers excellent gaming power in a sleeker, hinge-forward design with arresting sound and lighting effects. Indeed, the gaming performance is amazing. The aesthetics are great. It comes in a slimmer design. The audio quality is intriguing. In fact, the battery life too is above average. Moreover, you can get 13 lighting zones that you can customize to your preference. The only downside is that the CPU performance trails competitors.

After almost 22 years in the game, it’s safe to say that Alienware knows how to devise a gaming laptop. The company also holds commendable knowledge as to when to do a total redesign or when to make a few fine adjustments to refine the overall product. The Alienware 17 R5 (starting at $1,399 , $3,974 as tested) is a combination of both.

Alienware made slight modifications to the exterior design. Thus, the result is a slimmer chassis. In fact, you also get customized lighting opportunities. Renovation of the cooling and audio systems make for quieter fans and louder speakers. Indeed, a total redesign of the Alienware Command Center software makes customizing your lighting very easy and convenient. In fact, overclocking your processor and graphics card too are very smooth and easy. Alienware has provided even more LED zones to the ready-made battlestation.

Talking of ports, you get a single USB 3.0 port on the right with another one placed on the left. You will also figure out a USB Type-C port, jacks for headphone and microphone, and a Noble Lock slot. Owing to the hinge-forward design, you will find most of your ports in the back. They include a Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet, and a power port. In fact, you will also find the proprietary port for the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.

Display

The 17.3-inch, matte anti-glare display offers robust colour and unparalleled brightness with generous viewing angles. Details are very sharp and the picture quality is crisp. In fact, regardless of the nonstop action, the Nvidia G-Sync technology helps prevent image tearing by synchronizing the GPU with the panel up to 144 hertz. Discussing colour reproduction, the Dell Alienware 17 R5 hit 110 percent of the sRGB colour gamut.

Audio

Alienware’s hinge-forward design creates space for a seriously improved audio system. The design now accommodates a couple internal smart amplifiers that monitor audio waveforms. Indeed, the system deploys that to better regulate the speaker thermals for more gorgeous sound. Thus, the audio is loud and crisp. Indeed, it lingers in the air.

While most of them have gone island-style with their gaming keyboards, Alienware stays true to its traditional layout and that too with good reason. With 2.2 millimeters of key travel and 79 grams of actuation, the Alienware 17’s steel-reinforced TactX keyboard far transcends our minimum requirements (1.5 mm, 60 grams). You will get the feel that your fingers are typing on tiny, springy mattresses. It bounces your way to 78 words per minute on the 10fastfingers typing test.

The 4 × 2.1-inch  touchpad is huge and offers ample space for your fingers to skate along and navigate websites and documents. You can also invoke Cortana with a three-finger press. Let us tell you that the most impressive thing about Alienware touchpads is how they light up when you touch them. In fact, the pair of discrete mouse buttons are pleasant and springy. They present a nice click when you press them.

Concluding lines

Be it games or multitasking or video editing or coding – anything and everything you want to do, the Alienware 17 R5 can handle with grace and ease.
