Web Design 101 – The use of White Space in Web Designing!

What makes a really good web design is a complicated topic, not because there are a lot of technicalities involved in the process but mainly because each designer have had his own ideas that he thinks of highly for a website design to be effective.

However, there are a few important elements that can be used to generalize and sketch a broader concept of top web design. Designers can play around with these elements and come up with unique patterns and finishes to ensure their design retain the best visualization and engagement from others.

Apart from various other elements that contribute to overall appeal and aesthetics of web design, here we will be discussing one of the most strategic yet neglected aspects that has the potential to make or break the theme for web design.

  1.    White Space

This might come as a surprise to many; especially those who aren’t well-versed with the basic of designing. Nonetheless, it is worth to remember that the use of “White Space” is one of the most important and strategic aspects for all designing projects (whether it’s about graphic designing or web designing).

White Space might just be one of the various other elements that together make up top web design, however, this isn’t just another element, and rather it’s an element that literally dictates the size, position, and meaning of all other elements involved in web designs.

Unfortunately, this was also one of the most neglected elements, which was not even considered by many designers in the past. However, today a vast majority of web design experts have come to realize the strategic importance of these elements and have started to use it masterfully.

Some of the key spacing considerations (White spaces) that you should look out for include; consistent spacing across the entire website text and rationalize the use of white space in line with other elements including images. The strategic use of white space in contrast with the image can simply alter the entire meaning of the image. For instance, if you are looking to make a point with an image, a large presence of white space in its surrounding will simply give it a grandeur and strategic look, whereas, multiple images congested without sufficient white space will simply ruin any meaning to images.

Honestly, there is no strict rule on the “color” of the spacing here and you can get equally aesthetic results by exploiting different color themes to fill in the “blank spaces” in the background.

The best way to utilize the space:

Personally, I prefer placing all different elements widespread across the screen and then adjusting their position and size in line with “white spacing” between each of them. This way I can be sure of testing unique patterns before finalizing on one. Subsequently, the only website that can neglect the use of white space is “News websites”, which often have to stuff text in the close spacing pattern.
