Top 10 Technology Podcasts

For me, podcasts are the only reason to get an Apple MP3 player. Unlike mp3 or movie syncing, the podcast subscription functions are often overlooked as the single component of iTunes that has yet to be replicated in a competing product. Here are best sites like kissanime. Regardless of content, the iTunes podcast library has every genre imaginable, with content ranging from home studio audio podcasts, to major studio HD video segments. For me, new crops of HD podcasts have replaced a cable subscription. Did I mention that podcasts are free?

Here is a list of 10 technology podcasts that are delivered to my iTunes library for free month after month:

CNET Buzz out Loud (Daily): Currently on episode 1,188, Buzz out Loud is one of the oldest running podcasts on the Internet. Covering technology news, the hosts of this show are all industry journalists who write for CNET.com. My favorite part of the show: the legendary “Molly Rant”. I could listen to molly ready the phone book, and would find it hilarious.

CNET Buzz Report HD (Weekly): Molly Wood hosts This HD Video podcast. Lasting roughly 4 minutes an episode, the Buzz Report is a breaking news format with a snarky spin. The Gadget of the week segment is perhaps most memorable. And yes, this podcast has a heavy helping of “Molly Rant”.

CNET Car Tech HD (Weekly): Car Tech HD does car reviews pertaining mostly to the cabin technology of a vehicle. Does that new version of BMW iDrive really work? Is Ford sync really worth it? Car Tech HD is excellent 720p HD.

HD and Home Theater Podcast (Weekly): This audio podcast covers the weekly home theater news. It’s containing both news and reviews. The podcast is tied to HTguys.com, which is an excellent source of conversation, news, and reviews for anyone looking to purchase home theater gear, or even have a passing interest in HD industry news.

Rev3 Diggnation (Weekly): Diggnation can be best described as “apropos of nothing”. Formatted as a variety show of tech news. Diggnation covers the highest rated tech and non-tech news on the social news website digg.com. What is social news you ask? Digg.com posts user submitted news links; these links are then voted up or down, which contributed to the social aspect of the site. As novel as the site itself is, the Diggnation podcast is a funny mash up of randomness. Often contain swear words in the hosts colorful commentary, this podcast is listed as “explicit” in the iTunes podcast store.

Rev3 Totally Rad Show (Weekly): An episode of the Totally Rad Show is split in 3 segments; Movies, Games, and TV. Shot in 720p HD, this podcast is a good cross-section of media coverage. Reviews of the newest Box office release, Final Fantasy release, and NBC series can be covered in a single episode.

GeekBrief TV (Daily): Host Cali Lewis covers tech news and reviews in daily 4 minute chunks. Cali is one of a growing technology community based in Austin, TX. Not terribly humorous, or groundbreaking, Geekbrief is simply an easy watch, is glorious HD.

CNET Gadgettes (Weekly): A CNET audio podcast, Gadgettes features two female hosts that make snarky commentary on technology targeted at women. The show is broken into segments, such as “Bling RX”, “Hot Asian Gadgets”, and my personal favorite “Kill Me” which covers technology so terrible that it will either physically injure you, or make you want to gauge your eyeballs. Consistently hilarious.

Wired | The Hopkinson Report (Weekly): Published by Wired magazine, The Hopkinson Report is an audio podcast covering marketing trends and analysis. While not seemingly tech, it is always interesting to hear an analysis of Apple marketing, the science of how someone chooses as new computer, or interviews with technology startups that discuss how they are marketing their new products or websites.

Fast Lane Daily (Daily): Hosted by “Derek D”, this car news podcast is always entertaining, but is a bit inconsistent with other shows such as “Shakedown” appearing in its feed. The best part of this podcast is its host; I simply delete the remaining episodes. Sorry Shakedown.

Honorable Mention:

iTunes U: iTunes U is a hidden gem. As its name implies, its free content is posted by Universities all over the county. From lesser known state schools such as Illinois State, to prestige names such as Harvard, Princeton, and Duke. Also you can see out best movies on Rainiertamayo. Whether you want to learn photography, programming, or modern art, iTunes U has a myriad of options. A personal favorite, the “iPhone Application Programming” course taught at Stanford. If you have time to soak up the content, this course is highly recommended.
